Path of Exile: Delve is the Next Big Update
The company behind hit role-playing computer game Path of Exile has shown that making big money from creating online worlds is no fantasy. However, Chris Wilson, the game's co-creator says it's business as usual since Chinese technology giant Tencent bought a 80 per cent stake in his firm, Auckland games studio Grinding Gear Games. Path of Exile proves that "free to play" doesn't have to be a bad thing. The action RPG sets the standard for free to play titles supported by cosmetic microtransactions, heaping piles of quality content that keeps its playerbase thriving. The game arrived on Xbox One earlier this year, and has enjoyed similar levels of support to its PC counterpart.
Following last week's Diablo Immortal announcement, fans have found unique ways to poke fun at the upcoming mobile game, currently hailed as "a slap in the face" from Blizzard. Diablo players, alongside those not too familiar with the game, where somewhat expecting/hoping that a Diablo IV reveal would take centre stage at Blizzcon 2018.
This is Path of Exile's passive skill tree. It is a vast web of 1325 skills that provide passive bonuses to your character. Each time you level up or complete certain quests, you can allocate a skill and explore deeper into the tree. All character classes share the same tree, but start at different locations that are aligned with their primary specialties. You're able to either focus on improving your core abilities or travel across the tree to allocate exotic skills that your class normally wouldn't have access to.
The Azurite Mine is the star of the expansion, a dungeon with infinite depths that filled with an evil darkness. To push through the darkness, you need to follow the light of a helpful machine called the Crawler. Azurite you dig up along the way can be used to upgrade the Crawler or buy flares and crafting materials to use as you venture ever further from the safety of the light in your quest for treasure.
People love the number of different ways they can build their characters in Path of Exile. The game is all about combining active skills, support gems, passive skills, random and unique items and other elements to make custom characters that use their skills in new and interesting ways. We also update the game with new content and rebalanced game-play values every three months, to keep it fresh. These things have been the key to its popularity.
